BOYS STATE - Post sponsorship includes - room and board, transportation to and from Austin TX, T-shirts.
" American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students. It is a participatory program where each student becomes a part of the operation of his local, county, and state government.
At American Legion Boys State, participants are exposed to the rights and privileges, the duties and the responsibilities, of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical, with city, county, and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices."
BOYS SCOUT Troop 485 - Post 336 sponsors scouting america to enable the development of Leon Valley youth.
"The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law."
CAMP CORRAL - " Camp Corral is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to transform the lives of children of this nation’s wounded, ill, and fallen military heroes. Since its inception in 2011, Camp Corral has served nearly 29,000 children from every state in the nation with resilience-based programs focused upon the very unique attributes and challenges shared by military-connected children across the country."
" The American Legion Oratorical Contest exists to develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students. Since 1938, the program has presented participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation’s laws, the ability to think and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship. The program has featured numerous politicians and prominent contestants over the years, including former presidential candidate Alan Keyes, national television commentator and talk radio host Lou Dobbs, and former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence.
Young orators earn some of the most generous college scholarships available to high school students. Over $203,500 in scholarships can be awarded each year. The overall national contest winner gets a $25,000 scholarship. Second place takes home $22,500, and third gets $20,000. (20th District 2025 competion)
NISD HIGH SCHOOL ROTC PROGRAMS -
"ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) is important because it provides a pathway for college students to become commissioned officers in the U.S. military, offering a combination of academic studies and military leadership training. ROTC also provides scholarship opportunities and valuable leadership skills that can benefit students even if they don't pursue a military career.."
"The UT Health San Antonio (UTHSCSA) scholarship program offers a variety of financial aid options for students in its health professions schools, including need-based and merit-based scholarships. Many of these scholarships are funded by donors with specific criteria, such as those focused on health professions, children's health, or women's health. Students typically need to complete the FAFSA and the UTHSCSA scholarship"
"Leon Valley Police Department Blue Santa Program was created to provide local families in need with assistance in providing their children with Christmas gifts that they would otherwise not get. Families who are indigent/low income and those families needing a little help can apply for this program. Multiple applications may cause cancellation."
